I bought this for my son recently after he finished high school. I was a bit skeptical due to the low price associated with it. He's been considering the field for some time, but it seemed as though he lacked in guidance and direction. There were times when he wasn't even sure if this area of expertise was right for him.

He spoke to councilors at the local college, but he often returned more confused than before. One person told him that his grades would have to be nearly perfect for him to even consider a place in the field.

At that point, I think he was about to give up. After a week of giving him this book, however, it all changed for the better. I decided to take a peak at it myself, just to see if it was in fact the book, or mere coincidence. The information is well laid out, the writer is clearly writing from experience. I liked how it was designed to apply to the person with perfect grades, but also for the person who struggled a bit.

A clear plan is available in either case. My son currently enrolled in a community college, in hopes to "make up" for what he missed in high school. Before, community college would have been the beginning and end for him. But now he talks about trying to get accepted into a nearby university. It's worth mentioning, that the information provided in regards to which schools to attend, is worth the purchase price alone.

This will allow a person with interest to develop a plan of their own, that is based on their individual situation and needs. I believe that this book has helped him feel more confident in his goal, and has also provided him with several options that previously were unavailable to him. He now has a very clear plan for his future, and I think that this book is to thank for that.

Ever since I can remember, building and design have always been strong interests for me. But I had no idea where to start, and my school didn't offer many resources in that department.

I didn't know which schools offered the best programs, what the colleges were looking for in an applicant, or even how to go about applying. Needless to say, I wish I had found this book sooner. It will show you what it takes to get where you want to be, and it will give you a significant edge over other applicants. It uncomplicates what can sometimes be a complicated and ambiguous admissions process.

If you are serious about going to school to be an architect, or you are just curious about the field and want some more information, this book is for you. One person found this helpful. Format: Paperback Verified Purchase. There is very little interesting information in this book. Everything in it can be easily found online.

No hidden gems and not worth the money. The book has some helpful information but much of the material can be found on the internet.

  7. If you're starting from scratch will probably be more helpful than if you've already started your own research. I expected more from this book. It offered the most basic insight about architecture school that you can look up in the internet for free. Very short. Format: Kindle Edition. If you are dedicated to getting a career in architecture, this is a wonderful book. I am definitely going that path, but I picked the book because i was a little intrigued to learn what it actually takes to become an architect plus it was free at the time.

The best aspects of the book were the first-person detailed information provided in this book. Unlike other career books I came across, this book provided really specific information that any architectural student at every level would love to know such as: 1. What you should you take in high school and why 2. What you should put in your portfolio 3. How to become an architectural student when you are a transfer 4. How to get into architectural with less than stellar grades Some of this information is provided in other career books, but not with the insight of this book.

The second good part about the book is the depth of information. From the looks of almost every accredited architecture school is included. There is also a detailed and highly specific but adaptable course plan. All of this is something that I haven't seen in any career book. The book is a little weak on non-architectural stuff, like financial aidl however it serves its purpose.

The book is an excellent read that I would recommend to any person even remotely interested in architecture to get an idea of the commitment involved. I even learned a few things myself. The book offers in detail the various pathways open to an individual seeking a career in architecture. It provides very useful information like types of courses, duration, entries from school level to those already on a degree program.

You will also finding in this book the accreditation process, list of good universities and programs as well as how to select. For me one of the nice touch in the book was the "Experience Sheet" that can be used to prepare for the interview! A well written book that will empower anyone seeking to enter the architectural profession at any level. It will eliminated doubts and equip you to get accepted into architecture school!

If the University you are looking into does not say one of those specifically, then it is not an NAAB approved program. You can find a list of accredited architecture programs by state on My School of Architecture. Again, this is extremely important. DesignIntelligence puts out a book each year that rates the top architecture schools.

You can find their book on Amazon, as well. Every major architecture website uses their rating system for publishing the top schools. While it would be wonderful if we could all get into an Ivy League school or the top DesignIntelligence rated school, it isn't necessarily feasible. Remember what your goal here is If a program is not good enough to produce architects, it will not be accredited by the NAAB.

    So what's that mean?
