The characters were great, Lucy and Sammie had an amazing relationship with some fantastic banter and inside jokes between them. Jared and Alec are crazy as all get out and I actually started to like Jared a little bit. Will and Heath are too sweet for my taste but suited Sammie well, and Jax was right up my ally with his angry temperament, and broody disposition. The suspense, turmoil, conflict, back and forth behavior between Jared and Alec, the strange dreams, the hunters and everything they brought to the story.
It all made for one seriously great read that left me on the edge on my seat the whole time! Oct 22, Kristina rated it it was ok Shelves: reverse-harem , urban-fantasy. The author creates a unique take on demonology and the kind of Hunter lore typically found in vampire stories.

The idea for the story has a lot of potential, but its execution is lacking. The story is very slow to start, and kind of slow throughout. Instead, it contains lengthy portions that aren't particularly relevant and fail to m 2. Instead, it contains lengthy portions that aren't particularly relevant and fail to move the plot forward. I also found the book to be immature for my taste, perhaps more appealing to a YA crowd. I had a hard time connecting to the main character, but I think there is potential for her to mature in the next book.

I am curious to see what happens next in Sammie's, the MC's, story. May 01, Charlotte Clavier rated it really liked it. Their good night escalates into days of terror at the guys hands. Yes there are parts of this that some might find dark. A great start to a series i cant wait to read more of. Oct 20, Kylera rated it it was amazing. I was given an ARC in return for an honest review, and was not compensated. This book took a unique twist on the paranormal genre, and introduced us to Sammie. As an intro to a series this was great.
We got to see S going through her normal life and to see her background to understand her more as a character. The beginning was a little slow but hang in there! Once you get into the action the twists keep you hooked. I would even say the first half felt almost like a horror novel as she is exposed I was given an ARC in return for an honest review, and was not compensated. I would even say the first half felt almost like a horror novel as she is exposed to the nonhuman side of her world. I cant wait for the next book, as well as to see more of this world Wilson has built.
Oct 21, Christina Jones rated it it was amazing. This book was very unique and intriguing. It gives you a whole new outlook into the supernatural world. Oct 21, Cary rated it it was amazing. Oh sweet jesus, I just finished the book and can't tell you how much I loved it. The fast paced action, the interaction between her and the rest of the group and that happy surprise near the end.
When will the next one be ready? Oct 22, Jenny rated it it was amazing Shelves: arc. After she Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it… For Sammie, trying to fit in has always been a problem. I must say for a debut, it is an awesome read. It has everything I look for: World building and unique plot — check.
Relatable characters — check. Romance and drool worthy guys — check. An academy for hunters training — action? Possibly, an impending doom in the form of Jared. Oh be still my heart. Triple check! Verdict: I cannot wait for the next book.

Oct 23, rads rated it liked it. This book has a lot of potential and ended with a great lead up to the next book without any major cliff hangers which I really appreciate. I am going to separate my review into thirds based on beginning, climax and conclusion. I found myself skipping straight to the dialogue lines.
But that was completely fine because it made sense with where the author was taking the story. From the climax onwards I was hooked into the story and that's where the 3 stars comes from. I like the supernatural storyline that the series is taking and am excited to see where it leads the characters. Nov 05, Kayla Pipkin rated it liked it Shelves: reverse-harem.

I finished this story several days ago, but it has taken me this long to get my thoughts together and to determine exactly what I wanted to say about this new book. While this was an interesting and new concept for a book idea, it wasn't something for me. I really struggled to push through reading it. Sammie has been plagued with nightmares from the day she hit puberty.
Each and every night she is forced to escape the realism she feels from the terror in her dreams. Wanting a night out after a disa I finished this story several days ago, but it has taken me this long to get my thoughts together and to determine exactly what I wanted to say about this new book. Wanting a night out after a disastrous day doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Until her dreams become a reality she is all too familiar with. With this being the first book in a new series, I understand a lot of background information is needed.
However, I kind of felt like some of it was drawn out. I'm not really sure exactly how to explain it. There were times I thought this story was going to go in a whole other direction. But it turns around and you see where the harem comes in.

You don't really see them until about 60 percent though. I struggled to make it to the end. I finally pushed through and finished reading it. Overall, it was an okay book. I think I will read the second to see where everything leads. Oct 25, Sophie rated it liked it. There was a good twist half way through the book that added a paranormal element to the story. The book had a lot of suspense, a lot of heart, and a lot of interesting concepts.
There was a lot of dialogue between Sammie and Lucy tha 2. There was a lot of dialogue between Sammie and Lucy that neither added to their character development nor moved the story along, and I found myself doing a lot of skimming. There were also many scenes throughout the book where the dialogue seemed unrealistic and awkward. I know that the MC is young, but to say that she is unwise would be an understatement. I couldn't connect with Sammie or the plot because she kept making these really bad and impractical decisions over and over again that had dire consequences.
Thus, the story feel force and the flow of events unnatural. It turned me off for the rest of the book, unfortunately, and I just couldn't get into it. Nov 04, Laura rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Everyone. The book starts out pretty "normal" with two friends going to school and being normal collage age girls.
They decide to go out for the night cus of a breakup and meet two hot guys with a secret. As the night goes on things turn dark and scary for the girls. There were times I wondered if they would survive this adventure. By the end of the book I was breathless and was wanting more to read of this story. There are a lot of twists and turns to this book and I could not put it down as I had to see what was going to happen next. For a new author- Sara did an amazing job of bringing this story to life, there is real promise for future books and I can't wait for the story to continue.
Nov 04, Country Goose rated it it was ok Shelves: didnotlike. First thing that should be mentioned is the book takes place in the U. There's nothing wrong with that, but there are differences between the U. Drinking age is 18, the characters are The best friend Lucy is a ho that apparently started her promiscuity early in life, and Sammie is a pushover whining wimp. They are both supposed to be smart, but I don't get that at all. I do enjoy the take on the legends of werewolves, but The plot is lacking First thing that should be mentioned is the book takes place in the U.
The plot is lacking. It's rushed, and I get zero emotion between the good characters, but I get emotion with the main bad guy, and I felt horrible when he turned into such a bad guy. He was psycho! Awesome bad guy, really. Lost everywhere else though. Nov 04, Brittany Devlin rated it really liked it. I was excited to read this new author and to get pulled into a new world of demons, hot guys, and action.
I loved the interactions between Sammie and Lucy it reminded me about the type of relationships I used to have with my best friends back when I was that age. The banter between them is relatable and helped me get drawn into the characters. This story borderlines on the dark side for me which I absolutely love. I like how she is conflicted on her feelings on the different guys, it makes it wa I was excited to read this new author and to get pulled into a new world of demons, hot guys, and action.
I like how she is conflicted on her feelings on the different guys, it makes it way more believable. I think this whole concept has a ton of potential to turn into a great series. Oct 25, Trish rated it it was amazing. I like the bff relationship between Sammie main character and Lucy - typical of young college students - not a care, until life becomes real. The pace throughout is good, slightly slower to start, but well worth the background before the heat of the plot picks up the pace, and dares you to put this book down - I couldn't.
I can't wait for book 2. Nov 03, Lindsey rated it really liked it. Sammie is having THE worst day. She wakes up from her night terrors to find that her almost almost boyfriend started a relationship without even telling her, and she still has to deal with his idiot friends at school. What's the harm in going to the club to dance off some of her tension?
After a great night out with her best friend Lucy, and some city hopping, she has met one of the hottest guys, who seems genuinely nice. Will this great night last, or will her nightmares come true? I was hooked in Sammie is having THE worst day. I was hooked in the beginning, however I felt it dragged a little bit after.
It could almost have been two books. The second half pulled me right back in though. Since the last half established Sammie's future, I am excited to read the next book. Oct 30, Elizabeth Clare rated it it was amazing. Oh my goodness I enjoyed this book. It's different, unique and the author has a lovely voice and is a mature, clever writer. I loved the way Sammie matured throughout the book and despite what happens to her, still maintains her vulnerability and love for her friends. It's a great story that has you hanging of the edge of your seat at times, and although the 'baddies' are bad, she still manages to make them into rounded characters.
