Sort order. Jun 14, Nadine Colleman rated it really liked it. When teaching non-native speakers English for journalism purposes it is very difficult to find adequate materials that meet those specific needs. In other words, which areas of English do we need to cover in order to teach them to use the language adequately, as well as have them understand the English used in the media?

English for Journalism
This book by Mike Gandon strikes me as very useful, in the sense that it is 'clear and engaging' as the blurb suggests. It also focuses on many common pitfalls that always stand in the way of correctness and clarity, both for print media and spoken reports. The many up-to-date examples from British media outlets only help to prove the many points it makes. In my opinion it highlights exactly those language categories that people teaching English to non-native speaking future journalists have to draw from to build a useful and interesting syllabus.
For future journalists working in the Belgian media landscape it may be a little too academic in some places, as they will be reporting almost solely in Dutch. On the other hand, it will help them to understand English as such, and English for the media, which can only help further their knowledge of the language.
